As a UK based professional photographer I get to photograph some amazing things and I genuinely feel privileged to do what I do. I love seeing the alternate worlds created through dance and theatre. Watching and recording the way a dancer can move their body or how an actor can draw an entire audience into a completely new realm.
Dance photography for me started when I was commissioned to photograph the UK Street Dance Championships, photographing many of the well known groups like Diversity and Flawless. Now I have fallen in love with photographing the performing arts whether that’s production images for the stage, dancers, backstage and behind the scenes. I can’t get enough.
I have been the official photographer at the Brighton Fringe Festival for nearly 10 years and I love it. From roadside street performers to cabaret in the Spiegeltent and interactive theatres in peoples gardens. Just like the audience I never really know what I am about to walk into…
My editorial school work is equally interesting. Schools are such a unique place. We seem to forget what they are really like after a few years (unless you are a teacher of course) but being in a school you can feel the energy, see the dynamics and it is great to have the opportunity to show their enthusiasm
I think I got into photography all thouse years ago because it’s varied, it’s interesting and keeps me on my toes. I also shoot my own creative personal projects. I always have a few ideas on the go which helps me to continue to grow as a photographer.
