Virgin Active Mud and Powder Paint Photoshoot
I was approached by an advertising agency to shoot this campaign for Virgin Active. They needed 2 mud related splash pictures and 2 with powder paint images. We had two days to shoot this and went with the mud first…. it was everywhere. Both the models were fantastic. They had to get showered in between splashes (we could probably throw the mud at them no more than 3 or 4 times before they had to get cleaned up again) so that they looked clean in the next set of pictures. I’ve got a feeling the shower probably needed a plumber after we had finished a days shooting. We tried all kinds of containers and methods to create just the right splash effect. The two assistants probably got as much mud on them as the models did but thankfully it was warm and everyone had fun.
Day two was the powder paint. I have experience in powder paint photoshoots which is why they came to me for this one. They are messy. The powder gets everywhere and eventually starts forming a coloured haze in the room. Again the method of throwing the paint really depends on the way it is thrown and the type of holder being used. In the past I have used snow shovels for a great cloud effect but this time we used a variety of smaller containers to isolate parts of the model with the paint.
I was really pleased with the results and the client loved the final imagery. It was definitely a shoot I will remember!
