Cancer Research UK Lake Photoshoot

It was a very early, misty morning in early spring. It was also freezing cold but these brave Cancer Research members of staff pulled on their wetsuits and dove headfirst into a cold lake in Milton Keynes to do a test run of a water based obstacle course for future fundraising potential.

It was tough being the photographer and I was dry and on a boat so I had a huge amount of respect for all these people who dared to take the plunge for the charity.

From my photographers point of view everything was against us. The lighting was impossible for most of the shoot as it was so early in the morning. I had an assistant on a second boat with a studio light chasing the subjects. As the models were all so cold we couldn’t ask them to stop or pause what they were doing and they were trying to race through the obstacles as quickly as possible so I had very little time to get the person controlling my boat into the correct position and my assistant and his boat into his position before the swimmers were out of position. Oh and the lovely person who was kindly steering the boat didn’t really understand the angles I was trying to get so that was limiting. A battle on all fronts but I am really pleased at how we managed to document the event for the charity.
